Pandemics and Poker

by Teddy Lykouretzos, age 14
I'm a relentless spirit searching for projects, friends, and ultimately myself. I enjoy working with my hands on engineering projects, along with writing Sci-Fi and poetry. Besides that my days are spent summoning the courage to go on the treadmill, trying to teach my cat to respond to his own name, and quietly thinking about what I will take on next.

“Separation becomes isolation
The few feet of space now a void of unknown”

It’s hard enough to play at the table of global powers.

Already keeping what’s most valuable to oneself

Defended by distance.

Then the chips go down.

Separation becomes isolation

The few feet of space now a void of unknown.

Within this solitude we think about what we keep

Instead of what we lose:

Our partners in the game.

We play to bolster our agendas

But we don’t win with empty seats.
