Dogfriend

by Jules, age 12
Jules is a passionate person who has been writing stories since the age of six. In first grade, her reading and writing talent were recognized, and she was allowed to move forward with reading and writing stories in a group separate from those focusing on basics. Since then, she has developed a love for expressing her feelings through writing. Recently, she found a story she suspects is her best work yet and she vows to finish it. Jules incorporates anti-racism, anti-animal-cruelty, anti-homophobia and anti-sexism into her work.

“Yellow dogs. / Black dogs. / White dogs. / Red dogs.”

Yellow dogs.

Black dogs.

White dogs.

Red dogs.

Brown dogs.

Grey dogs.

Even pink dogs.

So many dogs

To be my friend

For me to defend.

An ally

So diverse

That to be my dogfriend

Would be not a curse.

Yellow dogs.

Black dogs.

White dogs.

Red dogs.

Brown dogs.

Grey dogs.

Even pink dogs.

Accepting of all breeds

To diversity these are the seeds.

Kindness

Is diversity’s heiress.

Compassion

Is in our fashion.

Open-mindedness

Is to be taught with stress.

Accepting of all breeds

For to diversity these are the seeds.
