The Longing

by Delaney C., age 13

“The Polaroid camera sat on display pleading to be used, / It itched to capture the colors of the rising sun. / It longed for a chance to snap the wind”

The Polaroid camera sat on display pleading to be used,

It itched to capture the colors of the rising sun.

It longed for a chance to snap the wind

rustling the leaves of a scarlet oak tree,

or shoot droplets on a leaf after a rainy day.

The camera was hungry for a chance.

To grasp the gleaming sun through the red and orange autumn leaves

would be the opportunity that the camera is waiting for.
